#2 placemat project

since the bordered placemats, i have foregone the complication of borders, and made some simple double-sided ones. if you can't tell, i really like to mix and match prints.

to make it more interesting, i will add ribbons on four sides as appliquéd borders.

that is for another night.

this past weekend, i have been working on table runners & placemats for my mom's birthday. the pattern used is the same as all other dining decor (McCall's M5439). i definitely underestimated how long the runners are (70" front & back, each), and was left without enough fabric for placemats. so i did some quick problem solving:

when i made this, i couldn't find my pattern for the regular rectangular mats. i eyeballed everything, and they turned out to be within 1/16" of the original. awesome!

i have one more week to finish 2 more placemats, and stitch up some reinforcing/decorative seams. so i'm not too worried. i can't wait to show my mom her gifts.
